Grady A. Wallace Excellence Award is named in honor of Grady Wallace, a former Commissioner of the South Carolina Department of Probation, Parole and Pardon Services. During the Fall Conference, we will present the Grady A. Wallace Excellence Award to an active and well deserving SCPPA member. This will be a great opportunity for professional growth while also enjoying the Grand Strand of South Carolina. We urge your participation. Purpose:

To perpetuate the ideas and philosophies of the SCPPA by providing incentive and assistance to a person(s) to further strengthen the effectiveness of the Association by actively participating in training and showing demonstrated commitment in excellence and innovation.

Criteria:

Nominee must be a professional member of SCPPA and must be nominated by an active member of SCPPA.
Nominee must have a minimum of 15 years of service in the field of criminal justice.
Nominee is a practicing or retired practitioner in the field of probation, parole, community corrections or education.
Nominee must have made significant contributions to the probation, parole and community corrections profession.

During the Spring Conference, we will present the Joy Thompson Scholarship Award to an active and well deserving SCPPA member. This award is given in memory of Joy Thompson, a former SCDPPPS employee who was very dedicated to SCPPA and the criminal justice field. The winner of the award will receive a scholarship (hotel accommodations and registration) to attend the Fall SCPPA Conference in Myrtle Beach. This will be a great opportunity for professional growth while also enjoying the Grand Strand of South Carolina. We urge your participation. Purpose:

Any active member who has distinguished him/herself and made significant contributions to the SCPPA.
Must have participated within the Association in such a manner that this individual has demonstrated his/her awareness of new programs and initiatives.
Has excelled in his/her prospective career through professional achievement and education.
Aggressively promotes the enhancements of awareness of community corrections.

Award:

Linda J. Allen Community Service Award is named in memory of Linda Allen, an employee of the Alston Wilkes Society who demonstrated great dedication to the field of Criminal Justice.During the Fall Conference, we will present the Linda J. Allen Community Service Award to an active and well deserving SCPPA member. This will be a great opportunity for professional growth while also enjoying the Grand Strand of South Carolina. Purpose:

To perpetuate the ideas and philosophies of the SCPPA by providing incentive and assistance to a person(s) to further strengthen the effectiveness of the Association by actively participating in training and showing demonstrated commitment in excellence and innovation.

Criteria:

Nominee may be a member of non-member of SCPPA.
Nominee is an individual and/or organization that has demonstrated a history of participation in the rehabilitation of offenders and has provided significant contributions to the field of community corrections (i.e., organizations that provide offenders employment, tutors, volunteers that provide transportation, give their free time to assist and visit offenders and individuals who volunteer to assist rehabilitative organizations.)

Mary Beth Gutstein Distinguished Administrative Support Staff Award is named in memory of Mary Beth Gutstein, an employee of the U.S. Probation Office who served the United States Courts and the community corrections field admirably for 23 years. She served the U.S. Probation Office in the roles of Clerk, Staff Assistant, and Inventory Control Specialist. She was involved in many "extra duty" projects and was always willing to help where needed. Mary Beth lost her battle with Glioblastoma Multiforme (Stage IV Brain Cancer) on October 4, 2014, less than two years after being diagnosed. She is remembered for her generosity, kindness, enthusiasm, and sass. She is dearly missed by all those who knew her and who's lives she impacted. During the Fall Conference, we will present the Mary Beth Gutstein Distinguished Administrative Support Staff Award to an active and well deserving SCPPA member. This will be a great opportunity for professional growth while also enjoying the Grand Strand of South Carolina. We urge your participation. Nominee must be an administrative support staff member who has performed assigned duties in an outstanding manner and has made significant contributions to the probation, parole, or community corrections profession.
Nominee has brought credit and honor to the role of Administrative Support Professional.

Thomas N. Whiteside Distinguished Service Award is named in honor of Tommy Whiteside, a former Deputy Chief U.S. Probation Officer, SCPPA President, and Board Member. The Distinguished Service Award was renamed the "Thomas N. Whiteside Distinguished Service Award" in 1999. Tommy was a charter member of SCPPA and enjoyed a distinguished career as a United States Probation Officer. Tommy retired in 1997 after serving the District of South Carolina as its Deputy Chief for nine years. He died a tragic death in November 1998 while jogging on a railroad track near his home in the Chapin-White Rock area of South Carolina. He was 52 years of age. During the Fall Conference, we will present the Thomas N. Whiteside Distinguished Service Award to an active and well deserving SCPPA member. This will be a great opportunity for professional growth while also enjoying the Grand Strand of South Carolina. We urge your participation. Nominee must have brought credit and honor to the profession through participation or involvement in community corrections programs and/or community service.
