A Letter from the Past SCPPA President

Greetings! As we turn the page on the calendar, it goes without saying that 2008 will be remembered as one of the most difficult and eventful years. As we begin 2009, we hope that our leaders will possess the insight, fortitude and integrity to truly serve the interest of the people. As for the new South Carolina Probation and Parole Association Board, we will continue to remain strong, well capitalized, and willing and able to meet the needs of our members.

Please allow me the opportunity to introduce this years new Board members. Katrina Dowis is our new 2009 President. She will be joining us in March when she returns from active military duty. Brent Metcalf, President-Elect, has agreed to step-in until her return. Our new members at large are Dan Barker, SCDPPPS, Alan Collins, SCPPA, Quincy Avinger, USPO, Gina Williams, USPO and Heather Andrews, Alston Wilkes Society. This year’s Board is eager to serve and will be working hard to bring fresh ideas to the association.

Please be on the lookout for upcoming events. South Carolina Probation and Parole Association is hosting this year’s American Probation and Parole Association Conference 2009 Winter Training Institute, February 8-11, 2009 in Myrtle Beach. The South Carolina Probation and Parole Association is having the Spring Conference May 7-8, 2009 at the Hiott in Greenville, SC. We are once again planning on having a joint fall conference with SCCA in Myrtle Beach. The date has not been decided.

I want to challenge each of you to take an active role in SCPPA and with hard work we will fulfill its mission by bringing good training opportunities, networking and new ideas for 2009.
