SCPPA Officers Meet with Transition Team

Legislative Session:
2011

Newly elected SCPPA President Rick Hook, President-Elect Angie Salley, and Vice President Quincy Avinger recently met with Taylor Hall, a member of Governor-Elect Haley’s transition team.

Taylor is the Cabinet Liaison tasked with reviewing applicants for governmental staff positions, including cabinet appointments. Taylor met with the three to discuss the mission of the association and its position regarding recently prefiled legislation affecting the probation profession in the state of South Carolina. During the meeting, SCPPA officers advocated consideration of a leadership appointment that would allow SCDPPPS the opportunity to tackle the mandates set forth in the Sentencing Reform Act which passed in June 2010.

Hall, while non-committal on potential candidates, did indicate that several qualified applicants were under consideration to lead SCDPPPS. SCPPA officers relayed to Hall that the Department needs a strong leader with a background not only in criminal justice, but probation and parole matters as well. Hall was also non-committal on agency consolidation and stated that Governor-Elect Haley is committed to finding the most qualified leaders to head the cabinet agencies. According to Hall, Haley plans to have the SCDPPPS Director selected by her inauguration date.
